Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.
It is the player's initial championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after that period of 2023.
Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, including in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serve.
Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the last five games to take the lead.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.
The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
